Window Covering

While some may have conceptualized their interior design goals, many of my clients aren’t sure “where to begin” when it comes to window treatments. My greatest joy is helping people in their quest for design inspiration, and my website gallery is a good place to start. Initial consultations are always free of charge.

Window coverings can completely transform a room. But there is more than meets the eye when it comes to blinds, shades, shutters and draperies.

Blinds come in different slat sizes and shapes, and the choices of wood or faux wood, aluminum, or fabric styles offer a range of price points. Blinds are especially popular because they camouflage the unattractive aspects of a window: locks, screens, mullions, dirt, and unsightly views. When closed, blinds can help conserve energy, and when partially open, they offer privacy as well as control over light and glare. They also serve as an ideal backdrop for various fabric treatments.

Shades are perfect for windows in rooms with a special view and offer a soft background for fabric treatments. Functionally, they lower for privacy and light control, then virtually disappear when fully raised to an open position. Top-down/bottom-up dual-function upgrades are available, along with several different operating choices. Cellular shades provide high energy efficiency and come in room-darkening fabrics, which are useful for home theaters and bedrooms.

Shutters offer a timeless way to treat windows. Available in wood or faux wood, with stained or painted finishes, they provide a perfect solution for arched or unusually shaped windows. Ranging in style from contemporary to rustic, shutters tend to be more expensive than blinds, but they are often “enough” to finish a room.

Draperies can completely transform a room. With texture and color, they add warmth and richness while finishing the overall look. Some of the more unique designs can greatly enhance a room’s architectural elements, such as arches, crown molding, and ceiling lines. Attractive drapery hardware is like “jewelry” for windows, and ranges widely in price, depending on whether it’s made of wood, resin, iron, or aluminum. If you have a beautiful view, draperies can “frame” it nicely.

Experience Matters

To simplify things, I help clients address function issues first:

  • Do you have enough privacy?
  • Do you want more control over light?
  • How important is energy efficiency?
  • Is glare a problem in your TV room?
  • Does your home have “walls of windows”?

It takes an experienced, professional interior designer and installer to take “function” and incorporate each client’s tastes and preferences. If you want your windows to make a statement, I provide a complimentary consultation in your home and am a Priority Dealer for Hunter Douglas Window Fashions.

I have customized window coverings for over 25 years and look forward to working with you! Contact me by phone or email.
