Make each piece reversible. If you’re looking for something you can rotate seasonally, consider making everything reversible. It might cost a little more initially, but you’ll spend less over time. For the coverlet, use a more expensive fabric on the face and line it with a less-expensive one.
Eliminate bed skirts. For a bed with decorative wood rails or a platform base, you can forgo the bed skirt altogether. Another option: fabricate the bed skirt in strips and use Velcro to fasten them to the inside of the bed rails.
Use fewer pillows. But opt for larger ones. Also, pick out a few different fabrics and trims for each pillow to create a more impressive statement. Using remnants can help reduce costs considerably.
Place a duvet (insert) under the coverlet. This achieves the lofty look of a more expensive comforter or quilted bedspread and provides an ideal alternative for those hard-co-handle duvet covers with empty corners and constantly shifting inserts.
